Education

Amna Mahmood grew up in upstate New York and attended Marist College where she earned her Masters degree in Psychology/Special Education. During her college years, she volunteered in various classroom settings and did charity work in local soup kitchens and shelters. To further her passion for special education, Amna volunteered her time to become an advocate for refugee families who needed special education support in the new school system.

Career

After college, Amna moved to Chicago, where she worked in elementary Special Education for the next 5 years. She started off working with diverse learners as a special education classroom assistant in elementary grades. In 2016, Amna served as the lead inclusion teacher for grades 2-6 and was able to successfully collaborate with students, general education teachers and other related service providers. She was able to create meaningful and content-rich lessons to help each student reach their highest potential. Now, Amna is dedicated to working with the legal team at Moore Law for Children to continue empowering families and students to ensure they receive the support and services they need to succeed academically and socially.

Message from Amna

I am committed to working alongside the attorneys at Moore Law for Children in advocating for students and families with IEP’s and fostering a strong communication between parents, schools, and service providers. My goal is to create an inclusive, supportive educational environment where every child, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive and reach their highest potential.
